This event highlights the remarkable contributions of women whose efforts led to crucial amendments in the Criminal Code and Domestic Violence Law, strengthening protections for victims. The experts will share international experiences in this field, and we will discuss how social engagement strengthens civil society and supports human rights initiatives. The experts will present specific cases and explain how these amendments enhance law enforcement in Kazakhstan, strengthening the Rule of Law in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Khalida Azhigulova – lawyer, PhD in Law from the University of Leicester (UK), Master of Laws from the University of Oxford (UK), Independent Director at the Board of Directors of the Economic Research Institute under the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the expert councils under the Commissioner of Human Rights of Kazakhstan, the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan, and the National Election Committee. UN international consultant on protection and investigation of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment. OSCE international expert on women’s political leadership. Research expert in ESG, SDGs, and corporate social responsibility.


Aliya Omarova – prominent lawyer defending the rights of women and children in Kazakhstan, who represented Saltanat Nukkenova’s family in a criminal case, and has also served as an attorney in other high-profile cases related to the protection of women’s and children’s rights.
