About the Delegation
The visiting party comprises senior executives from some of Latvia’s foremost transport and logistics organisations, including chief executive officers of the nation’s principal ports – Riga, Ventspils, and Liepāja – as well as Latvian Railway and other professional transport and logistics companies.
Key areas of interest and potential collaboration include:
- Port Infrastructure and Services: The ice-free Latvian ports provide consistent container and Ro-Ro services, with a collective transshipment capability of 120 million tonnes. They are equipped to manage diverse cargo types such as containers, bulk commodities, and oversized items.
- Logistics Networks: These ports facilitate comprehensive logistics networks that support trade between Kazakhstan and Latvia, as well as Central, Northern and Western Europe. Opportunities are also available for the development of new logistics hubs.
- Cargo Handling Capabilities: The delegation is particularly interested in handling cargo from Kazakhstan, such as coal, grains, oil products, metals, and fertilizers. They are ready to provide customized solutions for any cargo type.
- Road and Rail Cooperation: There is mutual interest in exploring fresh avenues for partnership between road transportation companies and freight services. SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” (Latvian Railway) is focused on ensuring efficient and safe railway infrastructure management.
- E-Commerce and Transit: Latvia is positioned to act as a pivotal transit hub for e-commerce businesses connecting Kazakhstan and other parts of Asia with Europe.
- Aviation and Investment: Discussions on commencing direct flights between Latvia and Kazakhstan are welcomed by the delegation. Additionally, Riga Airport is also open to investment from Kazakhstan for the development of new logistics hubs.
